Crank Bolt Locking

Has anyone tried to solve the crank hub issue by locking the bolt with this washer? If the problem is with the bolt backing out, this should work.

Crank bolt capture is a cheap and easily fix for the bolt backing out and doesn't require removing the bolt, which adds considerable complexity. In addition, there have been several reports of the hub spinning with the bolt still tight.

If that were the case, would there be so many sch threads? I guess we needed another one.

It is assumed that the bolt was still at full tightness. Nobody has tested, if there even is a method to test the bolt torque before removal. It's a stretch bolt. A static bolt cold be easily checked. I don't think anybody has ever bothered to measure the bolt torque before removal. Other than the "it felt tight" on removal.

Well that speaks to the larger issue - no one really knows why the hub spins, and BMW won't likely look into it because the occurrence rate is practically nil.
