Car won’t go into park
I have no idea what’s going on but I’m flying out of town tomorrow for 6 weeks for work. My car will not go into park. So it won’t let me lock the damn doors. Parking brake engaged, car in neutral and engine off and click the stop button again so the car is completely off. Only thing showing on the dash is “N” and the parking brake indicator. The car chirps twice when I try to lock it. Has this happened to anyone before? I’ve had this car for over 2 years now and never had this problem.

You should have it in gear when you hit the stop button to put it in park. You can have it in either D or R but don't have it in N when you turn it off...
It's a weird DCT thing |

The car still selects park when switched off in neutral on the 2nd press. Try switching it off in drive as mentioned.

I don’t know, I can at least lock the doors right now. I’ll dig into it more when I get back to town. I have an extended warranty still. Thank you!!! |

Mm never been a problem for me in the past. I think it was part of a software update at sometime. I read some older posts saying that the car does not shift to park from neutral and an update fixed this.

Just wanted to give a quick update. I’m pretty sure it’s the “park lockout module” located in the transmission. My car is going into service tomorrow and I’ll confirm when I hear back. I just wanted to put this here in case anyone has a similar issue they can figure it out.
On a related note, my wife’s 2013 535i decided to overheat yesterday and so that’s going into service tomorrow at the same time. Luckily I have extended warranties on both vehicles so I’m not too upset. Moral of the story, BMW means buy a freaking warranty. It was the park lockout module, car is going into park fine now. Was $830 at the dealer w/ tax, but was covered under my A/M warranty Last edited by SuperF10; 03-23-2020 at 09:42 AM.. Reason: update |
