E85 tune with cats?
Car is stock with just a BM3 Stage 1 OTS tune and I want more (because why not). Thinking about installing new spark plugs, the BM3 flex fuel kit, CBC, and getting an E85 tune (from Cary Jordan I guess? Any other reputable tuners?)
Is this a bad idea without installing downpipes? I've previously driven an F80 with dps and didn't enjoy the odor at idle. This is just for fun on the highway, I don't intend on seriously tracking it. Also question about flex fuel -- what's the benefit of going with something more expensive like the Bend Calibration flex fuel kit (https://www.bendcalibration.com/shop/p/f8x-ultimate) versus just the BM3 kit? Is the difference just the filter, and is that really necessary? Last edited by nick_xd; 08-11-2022 at 04:33 PM.. |

Cary likes when you keep your cats on, so he's safe from the Smog Police. You could always take your cats off after, and flip the BM3 switch. Our cats flow great anyway, so it's no biggie. I personally recommend F80Paul's tunes, and I've done 4 so far, all safe and very powerful.
Bend, yes you get a filter. If you're not doing mixed fuels all the time then you could pick a single tune, which is cheaper than flex, and can hit higher numbers since it's intended for E85 only. Some say a filter is necessary, but I ran my F80 without one. I have one on my F82 since it was part of the LPFP plumbing but I would have skipped it.
