Yeah me too. I ordered the 760ix. For the first time, I was tempted by an EV, but I'm just not comfortable with the state of the infrastructure for trips and didn't want to have to run a charging line to the garage. (And I'm just more comfortable with gasoline engines, having grown up in a gas station in the 1950s). But ask me again in 4 or 5 years and I may answer differently.

Not bashing im certain it's a good EV and will only get better. This again is a compromised platform but done well. But there is no replacement yet for the sound of an ICE motor let alone a healthy V8.

If the exterior was pleasing to look at, the new 7 series would be truly an amazing vehicle all around. Right now I have to admit the tech is simply amazing. Very impressive! But the exterior to me is so damn ugly. Maybe the Lci will change that. Either way great vehicle.

Can someone help me?

Old 7'ers of the past always had "lower" hoods/front-ends. They still had V8 engines.
Newer generation cars are all taller at the base of the A-pillar and across the front-end, but it's not like the engines have gotten "taller". What gives?

Some of it is crash regulations.

For this car in particular, BMW is trying to build a bridge from the upper end of BMW to the entry point of Rolls Royce by invoking that visual design style.

I like it.

Really wish Doug would have spent more time showing off ETJA which now goes up to highway speeds, up from 40mph. And bmws system doesn't require previously mapped roads like super cruise does. I also wanted to see how the how parking assistant or garage assistant or whatever they are calling it works.

Most likely due to pedestrian safety regulations, hence why hood-lines have become so much higher, and why bumpers go so high now.

Wow.
I’m just at a loss for why anyone would want this much tech in their car. It looks awful to me, unless you are in the backseat… then I can see it being nice.

If you are buying this car to have someone else drive you around, that’s fantastic.

Thoughts on the hybrid 750 forthcoming next year? Seemed like the best of both worlds until EV charging over distances becomes a little less anxiety inducing in the US

My thought is I would have been happy with a hybrid for the reasons you state. I guess I could have waited but my lease was up.

That is definitely part of it.
There has to be clearance under the hood between the hard parts and the hood.

7 series used to be very handsome/stately. Now the front just looks like a Pontic :

How does the Porsche Panamera manage it? They have a 4L TTV8 underneath there too and they managed to keep a low hood.

So… I had a chance to sit in this car last week.
It’s friggin nice.

REAL nice… but only from the backseat.
I mean that sincerely. This is a BMW Rolls Royce and it truly is amazing if you can lounge in the back. I could sleep back there without hesitation. I could do 12 hours back there without a single complaint, on a daily basis.
It’s ultra luxe.

It’s a limousine.
By the same token I wouldn’t ever want to drive this car though. If you don’t mind being the chauffeur for your family (or if you can afford a chauffeur for your family) then the 7 is awesome.

The tech is growing on me too.
I take it back, the tech is very cool if you are the passenger.

Ok but did you actually drive it? Yes, the back seat is nice but IMO it’s still a BMW and handles really well.

No, did not drive it.
I don’t doubt it is a bmw.
I’m just saying that this vehicle is best enjoyed from the back.
