Self sealing fuel tank on an electric car?
If I was some sort of heavy hitter or an executive that needed this type of vehicle the last thing I would buy is an electric car. What Third World vegan warlord are they trying to market to?

Let's hope that the electric motors don't let you stranded in your armored car like it recently happened with the brand new 7 series vehicles of the Swiss parliament.

It must weigh a(n extra) ton if the 0-60mph for the i7 is doubled. I wonder what the range is cut down to as well. Seems like an odd decision to offer it in the EV 7er since range, top speed and acceleration are all greatly affected. At least much more so than the ICE 7er.
Also, no gun ports? What if you want to play some offense? lol

I could be interested. I mean I DO live just south of Oakland (Calif.).....
![]() But seriously, it seems a bit pretentious of BMW. Still, I DO expect they'll sell at least, um, seven or eight worldwide. ;-) |

My only obvious issue with an EV as an armored car is the battery pack is underneath the vehicle and closest to the ground. Seems like it would be difficult/challenging engineering feat to protect the entire battery from any kind of explosives.

Is this to protect the owners from all the backlash they will get for driving the ugliest car ever made?

Article was actually about the 7 series and also the i7 model. "The new BMW 7 Series Protection represents the first time the current generation of 7 Series has received an armoured edition. The electric BMW i7 also gains a Protection model"

Intriguing that it's an EV state car.
One though I have is that though the cabin space in a standard state car is armored along with the fuel tank, the engine itself traditionally isn't as heavily-reinforced. That means that under siege, hose and reservoir punctures (via bullets or shrapnel) could kill the engine. Not sure if an EV powerplant and a battery tray (hopefully reinforced) would be better or worse under gunfire and explosives. Maybe we're on the edge of the cinema-style "CEO Kidnapped Out of Executive BMW i7 EV after Immobilized by EMP Device" future ![]()
