Dash coating peeling fix?

Hey all,

My 1er has been showing some signs of wear, and I finally have some time to fix it up. My main concern right now is the coating on the lower half of the dash peeling from wear. My question is- has anyone ever repaired this? If so, what did you use? Colorbond LVP? Duplicolor vinyl & fabric coating? Colorbond has OEM colors so it would match better than the Duplicolor from what I've gathered. I've seen people paint their perfectly good dashes using both of these options, but couldn't find much regarding repairing/replacing the factory coating, and I'm not buying a new piece considering they are now $500/ea. The issue is focused on the lower right half of the dash, including the glovebox... To buy replacement parts I'd be looking at over $1k, so I'm looking for the cheaper solution here. I have some experience with automotive painting, so it doesn't seem like it would be too hard, I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with this before I give it a shot. My idea is to remove the panels, remove as much of the factory coating as I can using some scrubbing pads, prep then paint. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Ended up using Colorbond with their UV protectant. Went a bit overboard and went with charcoal gray and redid the whole interior 2 tone. Check it out: Name: Image_20250923_104442_919.jpg

nice, well done.

So you just sprayed that on the leather? Or did you black plastic also?

Anything special required for prep. I'm a bit like yourself and familiar with paint, and an all black int is a little boring.

Colorbond has all their instructions on their website for various finishes, but for the plastic you scuff with a gray scotch brite, use the adhesion promoter and then straight to color. For the leather (vinyl) you skip the adhesion promoter and scuffing and go straight to color. Was honestly pretty easy compared to normal paint prep

Yes! I bought their bundle that came with the matte clear coat. Wanted to make sure the new color had some UV resistance

Thanks Jbam9, after all my dumb questions I found the site. They don't ship to Australia.

We have paint mobs a bit similar in Aus but not as detailed or specific. I asked colorbond was it tarrifs, aerosol, or volume for not selling but got no response. bugger
