Can I polish over after applying Dr Colorchip?
I am about to refresh my Ceramic on my vehicle hood, primarily because there are a few scratches that I want to address and I noticed some high spots that I missed when I applied ceramic previously.
I got Dr Colorchip but not sure what sequence to follow. I will first have to remove old graphene by orbital polisher. What should be my process thereafter? Can I polish over Dr. Colorchip after application as final step to prepare for ceramic/graphene? Thanks in advance for your guidance ![]() |

I will add more context to my question above. When watching some you tube videos about Dr. Colorchip, I recall that the suggestion was to apply Dr Colorchip after polishing as a final step. While that may be how it should be, I was wondering if the difference between polished areas and unpolished area where Dr Colorchip was applied would be accentuated by graphene or ceramic.....
Any harm polishing over the touched up area once it's dry ? (24-48 hours after touch up)? Will polishing pull out the touchup paint? |

This may help answer your question. From the Dr Colorchip website…
WHAT IS THE PROPER PROCEDURE FOR DETAILING WITH DR. COLORCHIP PAINT? Wash & dry the vehicle. Do any “hard” detailing first, like wet-sanding, compounding and buffing. Then use our paint. Follow up with standard waxing a week later. Refrain from using a circular buffing wheel and wool pad for at least 30 days. We suggest using a random-orbit buffer with a foam pad and quality compound at all times for the best, swirl-free results (rather than the circular buffer and wool pad.)” |

![]() So I guess it's true, not to polish over after touch up ...well for at least 30 days.... Thanks! So maybe I just don't polish and ceramic around the touched up area for a while and proceed with the rest I suppose. |

Let the new paint firm up fully (1-30 days, read the instructions), then you can treat it the same as any other painted surface of the car! Quote:
Depending on what exact ceremic coating you used, manyof consumer grade coatings will come off with a few rounds of acidic chemicals. Start with a nice acidic/strip-wash shampoo, follow-up with fallout/iron remover on one panel, and see where it gets you. https://adamspolishes.com/products/a...h&_ss=e&_v=1.0 If that fails, only then would you you can escalate to Light Abrasive Removal (clay bar), or Heavy Abrasive Removal (polishing with a polishing or abrasive compound). Easy to test - if the water stops beading on the paint - the ceramic coating is gone! Quote:
