Oxford Green X5 Incoming – PPF vs Ceramic Advice (Long-Term Ow
Hey everyone,
I’m in the process of locking in my next X5, going with Oxford Green Metallic Individual and adding some M Performance parts. Now I’m stuck on the protection decision: Should I go ceramic coating only? Or partial PPF (clear, high-impact areas only)? Or just go all-in with a full-body PPF? I plan to keep the car for 7–12 years and really want it to hold up well against Dutch weather (rain, grit, road salt, etc.). If there are any fellow Dutchies here, I’d love to hear recommendations for solid ceramic/PPF shops around The Hague. I’d also be open to going elsewhere in NL if it means better quality or more competitive pricing. Appreciate any advice or experiences you can share, especially from those who’ve gone through the same decision. Cheers! |

My 2c, PPF adds a layer of protection and makes it way easier to clean, generally care for and keep looking nice.
Oxford looks like a pretty dark metallic so would likely show scratches and other things pretty easily and obviously. Considering how long you're suggesting you'll keep it, it seems worthwhile to me. |

Agreed on PPF, at least for the entire front including headlights. Best value versus protection and it certainly makes upkeep easier.

All-in.
Last 2 new vehicles I bought I did full PPF + Ceramic coated myself. It’s amazing the difference. They always look showroom-new. Super easy to clean, too.

For long-term appearance purposes, I think PPF > ceramic. Full front PPF, with a paint correction before applying the PPF, will protect much of your paint.
For ceramic, you can obtain 90% of its benefits by applying it yourself (by watching some YouTube videos for instructions), or you could spend money on a high-end wax and apply it regularly, gaining much of the ceramic benefit. Ceramic does provide longer-term protection, but it's not extremely protective, nor does it add deeper layers of shine. |
