PPF install - Did I get screwed?
I’m looking for feedback on my PPF installation. My customer experience was terrible, and they damaged my roof—some tool got caught in between the tailgate and roof before they tried to close the top tailgate, bending the metal of my roof. You’ll see it in the pictures.
Please let me know what you think the install quality looks like and what my recourse is for the damage they did. I haven’t yet paid the installer in full. It was supposed to be an $8,000 job for a full wrap of Stek DynoShield 8mil. Did I get screwed? Last edited by BeeWarny; 09-29-2025 at 07:12 AM.. |

Absolutely terrible. Would definitely want them to make it right.

They did not wrap around any of the edges, and in some cases PPF doesn't even cover the full panel! I would insist on complete re-do of most areas, though I have my doubts if the same shop is capable of producing better results? The compression dent in the roof will be a challenge to remedy. Maybe get an opinion from PDR (paintless dent repair) guy? Good luck, a

That is a horror show. I'm sorry to see this.
I would explain this to the company see how they respond. At the minimum, they should be paying to repair the physical damage (that's crazy!) -- get a quote from a BMW body shop. I wouldn't want this shop touching my car again. I'd get all your money back, and then get a PPF quote from a more reputable place. See if they charge to remove the existing PPF. If so, I'd have this company pay for the removal as well. Charles

I got a quote for nearly $7k to fix the compression dent in the roof. Fixing it will involve removing the windshield and tailgate, dropping the rear sunroof and dismantling the Alcantara headliner in places to accommodate the full roof replacement.
I also took the car to another installer and they were in awe of the sub par workmanship. We also realized they missed installing key sections of PPF. I’ve reached out to the original installer to seek a resolution in good faith. I got what felt like a canned response after my detailed message where they ignored the damage they caused. Thanks to everyone that responded. I’m also open to thoughts or strategies on how to resolve this, or steps I should take to get them to claim this on their insurance or pay outright to fix it, so I don’t have to use my insurance. Obviously my online reviews of this place will depend largely on how they deal with me from here on out. Thanks all! |

Hopefully you paid with a CC and can dispute it.

That's one of the worst I've ever seen. Geez I hope you are able to find some resolution. Best of luck!

There's got to be some other option for it? Something to make it 90% better for a tiny fraction of the cost? Maybe not but I have to think there must be another option. |

That roof can likely can be fixed by PDR. Are those seals just pushed in? That's what it looks like. I agree with everyone on the quality of the work, looks half-assed.

Horrible, I felt nothing but pain and empathy for you while scrolling through those photos OP. They destroyed the look of the car with that garbage install (never mind the damage). I wouldn't be able to deal with seeing that, I'd have it all removed asap. I wish you the best as you look to remedy this.

It's a terrible job, and I personally would tell them to pull it off and then go somewhere else. I also wouldn't pay them a dime – certainly not until they've paid for the repairs (and for the love of god, don't let them try to do it or send it to a place of their choosing).

Oh so sorry this happened. What a nightmare. I wouldn't let that shop near your car again. I wouldn't have them remove any film or try and re-do anything. I would look close and see if any blades have cut into the paint. You may not see any cuts in the paint until after you remove the film. Hopefully there's none.
