740i Insane MPG

I've regularly seen mpg in the high 30's which is insane for a car this size. Doesn't lack power either. I have to get gas maybe once a month, such an underrated sedan.

Solid numbers considering it's not a plugin. I picked up a 750e at the end of September. I'm getting a combined 54.1mpg which has been amazing. I'm easily getting 800 miles on a full tank (but I plug it in everywhere). It's also the first car I've owned that I drive in efficient mode all time vs. Sport. Except for an M5 in 2023 I've been mostly daily driving Porsches or MBs. The current range of BMW products are way ahead of their MB counterparts. I test drove the new S class as well and it wasn't even a close call between the cars.

I bought the i7 so no use my comparing my numbers, but re ocb181's comment, I have to admit I looked long and hard at getting 750e hybrid -- a mostly perfect combo of electric and ICE. However, I figured if I was going to turn my back on another ICE vehicle, I would jump fully into the electric "pool" instead of just dipping in a toe. Still, that 750e -- GREAT choice! Actually ALL G70s in any configuration are great choices!

I think PHEV is so cool. Perfect for short trips and city driving and it sips gas on the highway. Realistically EV is perfect for me since I don't drive much and charge every night (I have had several and have one in the garage now) but I love the concept of PHEV. I plan on getting a Urus SE soon and after driving it the car is 10x better with the electrical system.

Bravo to you, but I still pick the v8 every time lol

I really wanted to love the PHEV when I got my i7 but the electric motor is still behind the transmission so there's a fair bit of throttle lag when it needs to downshift. If it had the throttle response of the i7 I probably would have ended up with it instead because it would have been awesome for long road trips.

100%
You’d be also surprised to know how many long-term Mbenz customers have switched to BMW for the same reason. Mbenz feels at least 5 years behind on all fronts. At this point, it’s impossible to compare because BMW has significantly improved its game. We have a number of co-owners of RollsRoyce sedans in this forum, and they’ve all attested that the 7 is now at the same level of comfort and quality. This is huge.

I had several S-Classes, and switched between Audi and BMW since 2014. I would say BMW is absolutely the best car out of the big 3 luxo barges.

The thing is, the 7-series showed up right as Mercedes and Audi decided to experiment with how far they can push “cost cutting” before it gets embarrassing...

And it worked well for BMW as they brought out a new, massively improved generation at the exact time the S-Class and the big Audis started sliding backwards in materials and execution. So yeah, it’s not hard for the 7 to feel “absolutely the best” when the usual competition is downgrading itself.
