120d (B47) Flexi Pipe Broken
Hi All,
I’ve got late 2016 120d with 65K miles on it, and the flexi pipe has broken off recently… Does anyone know if this is a common issue or could it be due to too much engine movement putting stress on the flexi pipe? Currently getting a new flexi pipe welded on. I’ve never heard any clunking noises when accelerating/braking or changing gears so I’m hoping it’s not a engine/transmission mount causing this failure. Going to see if the mechanic can have a brief look at them. Cheers! Last edited by Winter619; 02-26-2026 at 03:27 AM.. |

Yep, those will fail at some point but 65k is quite low. But it is also low miles to engine mounts to be shot... But I would inspect. I did my engine mounts at 184k and they where still in good condition. But I got a good deal on new one's, so why not.

Seems to be a common problem. My wife has a B37 F20 and her's started blowing, managed to get a new flexi installed at a place in Leeds for around £160.

Good news and bad news? I got my new flexi pipe welded on today but the mechanic said that the left engine mount is worn?
Most likely causing the engine to move more than it should and putting a lot of stress on the flexi pipe section. Think I?ll have to buy a set of engine mounts and get it replaced before it gets worse. Don?t really want the exhaust breaking off again. I heard Lemforder engine mounts are closest to OEM standard, so will probably try find a set of those now. Just need to figure out which part I need as it?s showing me 4 different products: https://www.autodoc.co.uk/car-parts/...plier%5B%5D=35 Last edited by Winter619; 02-26-2026 at 04:36 PM.. |
